My Perfect 5 Must-Have Maternity Pieces

Being pregnant may stop your monthly cramps but it doesn't have to cramp your style. Here are five belly-beautiful basics I could not do without during my pregnancy.

1. Slip-on shoes

Whether you choose a pair of ballet flats like these Tipsy flats by Kate Spade or a satin flat slipper, you can slip in and out of style in comfort. Look for shoes that have a slightly pointy toe instead of a rounded one, which can make your legs look shorter. Keep it simple by styling them with your favorite pair of boyfriend or maternity jeans and a white tee.

2. Maxi Dress

Maxi dresses are a hot item whether you're pregnant or not. I loved only having to throw on one garment and still feeling stylish. Stripes and floral prints are a great way to minimize your burgeoning belly. Snag this version from Gap for only $49.95!

3. Leggings

A pair of stretchy leggings like these from Grey Maternity Leggings keeps you comfy and stylish year-round. Pair them with knee-high boots when it's cold, or ballet flats or sandals when it's warmer. While you can get away with non-maternity leggings, pushing the waistband beneath your bump, maternity leggings have a more forgiving belly band that grows with you.

4. Maxi Skirt

Maxi skirts are great in any color or print, but this red maxi skirt brightens up this casual day wear nicely. You'll look polished and pretty, but won't feel constricted and you'll have plenty of ventilation with a soft, fold-over waistband. Which is great for your fluctuating body temperatures.

5. Drape Cardigan

If you know my style, then you know I cannot live without a cardigan! It has definitely been a staple item in my maternity wardrobe. The silhouette that is most flattering during pregnancy is one that hangs loose and helps give a more vertical, elongated look to your figure. Choose one in a mid-weight, waterfall jersey knit or lightweight cotton like this one from  Asos.
